ETIAS Spain Requirements for Macedonian citizens

Apply ETIAS from Macedonia

The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is a visa waiver that is expected to become available in 2026. It will become a mandatory requirement for all non-EU citizens travelling to Spain or any of the Schengen Area member states, including those from North Macedonia.

ETIAS aims to increase border security and allow member countries to keep track of foreign nationals entering and exiting the Schengen Area. The ETIAS will allow eligible Macedonian citizens to visit any member country, including Spain, and move freely within the Schengen Area.

Travelling to Spain from North Macedonia with an ETIAS

With the introduction of the ETIAS, visitors travelling from North Macedonia to Spain will be able to spend a maximum of 90 days within every 180 days in Spain as well as the rest of the Schengen Area. The ETIAS will be valid for any of the member states and will have only a few basic requirements. Entry will be allowed via air, land, or sea.

The ETIAS Spain for Macedonians will be processed in 24 to 48 hours from the moment of the online application. However, to ensure they receive their visa waiver on time, travellers are encouraged to apply 72 hours before departure. Travellers from North Macedonia can consult the dedicated Spain travel information section for more details regarding Spain’s health and security details, transportation options, geography, and climate.

How long is the ETIAS valid for Macedonians?

The validity of the ETIAS for Spain will be 3 years from the date of issuance or until the expiration date of the passport if this happens first. The visa waiver will allow multiple entries.

It is important to note that the ETIAS is a visa waiver and does not replace a visa that may be necessary in some cases, for instance, for long-term stays for study or work. However, whether they travel for tourism, business, or short-term study, Macedonian travellers will have to possess a valid ETIAS.

ETIAS application for Macedonian citizens

The process of obtaining the ETIAS Spain from North Macedonia is extremely simple and entirely digital. Macedonian travellers will be able to apply entirely online in a matter of minutes from the comfort of their homes. In the application form, the following details will be required:

  • Personal details (name, nationality, date of birth)
  • Macedonian passport information (document number, date and country of issuance, and expiry date)
  • Contact details (home address, phone number, email address)
  • Travel plans (the first Schengen state to be visited)

In addition to these details, applicants from North Macedonia will also need to answer a series of security questions regarding their criminal history, employment, and past travels within Europe.

Once the application has been sent for review, it will go through an automatic check against security databases, including the ETIAS Watchlist, EURODAC, INTERPOL, EUROPOL, SIS, and VIS. This automatic check allows for ruling out potential security threats.

Most applications are approved right away after passing the automatic check. If at this stage the system flags any potential security threat, the application must be processed manually. This phase may take longer, so Macedonian visitors should apply at least 72 hours before their trip to be certain they will receive their ETIAS Spain on time.

Important: Dual passport holders must use the same passport when applying online for the ETIAS and when travelling to the Schengen Area. The details on the approved ETIAS must match the ones on the document they provide at border controls.

The status of the ETIAS, along with the passport, will be checked by border officials when entering the first country in the Schengen Area.
