The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization) system, is set to come into place in 2021. Uruguayans who wish to travel to Spain in 2021 or later, will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before entering the country.
The new rule will affect non-EU citizens from 60 countries traveling to Spain and other EU countries within the Schengen area. The list of countries eligible to apply for an ETIAS Spain is subject to change and new countries might be included in the list later on.
The main objective of introducing the ETIAS visa waiver is to boost border security within Europe. The ETIAS travel authorization system will be established in order to identify threats that might be associated with non-EU visitors traveling to the Schengen area countries.

All information pertaining to the ETIAS application, including status, confirmation, and approval, will be forwarded to the email address that the traveler provided in the application form.
