Spain is consistently mentioned as being one of the most universally lauded tourism destinations in all of Europe. The country has beautiful beaches to accompany the nearly year-long sunshine, as well as some of the most unique and exceptional architecture in the world. Spanish cuisine continues to ascend into the same categories of its more famous neighbors and the diverse, unique cities ranging from Andalusia to Catalunya give travelers an exciting array of things to see and do. In late 2022, Nicaraguan passport holders will have a new system of acquiring permission to visit this wonderful country.
In response to multiple terrorist attacks across the continent, European authorities sought to update the screening process for people entering the Schengen Area. As a result of these efforts, authorities are introducing the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) for all Schengen Area member-states, which includes Spain. Nicaraguan citizens will be able to apply for and receive the ETIAS for Spain entirely online, making the process simple and secure for all parties involved.
Traveling to Spain from Nicaragua with an ETIAS
The ETIAS visa-waiver program is currently slotted to be available for around 60 countries in the world, including Nicaragua. That number is expected to grow as the program develops. The application process was designed to be straightforward and authorities anticipate that it should take less than an hour to complete.
Once submitted, there is a turnaround time of around 72 hours for a response, though in some cases, a reply may come within a matter of minutes. Still, it is best not to count on such as fast response and to apply for the visa-waiver with plenty of time. The approved ETIAS will have a validity of three years, giving holders plenty of time to enter the Schengen Area. Once inside Spain or any other Schengen Area country, Nicaraguan travelers will be allowed to stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This means that should the traveler leave the Schengen Area before they have spent 90 days inside, they will still have a valid ETIAS until either those 180 days are up or they have totaled 90 days on multiple entries.
ETIAS Application for Nicaraguan Citizens
The Spanish ETIAS application process for Nicaraguan citizens is easy. Each applicant must be prepared to provide a few basic personal details such as their first and last name, their contact details, current residence, their passport information, and their date of birth. Authorities will also ask for any security or criminal records, which they will double-check against numerous international databases. It is absolutely necessary for applicants to not only fill out the information truthfully, but to also check for any errors in typography as these may result in the rejection or delay of the visa-waiver.
Passport and Documents Needed
In addition to the personal details that were mentioned in the above sections, Nicaraguan passport holders must have a few other simple requirements in order to complete their application for the ETIAS for Spain:
- A valid Nicaraguan passport (or other ETIAS approved passport). The passport must have a minimum of three months of validity from the date that the traveler intends to enter Spain or any other Schengen Area country
- A debit or credit card so that the applicant can pay the visa-waiver application fee. The fee is non-refundable, so be sure to double-check all your info before pressing submit
- A current email address because all correspondence, including the final issuing of the visa-waiver will be done online
