However, it is important to note that all Emiratis traveling to Spain must have an ETIAS authorization starting in 2021. The ETIAS Spain for Emiratis is a type of “permit” that takes only minutes to apply and grants travelers the ability to travel to Spain and the rest of the countries in the Schengen zone.
Traveling to Spain from UAE with an ETIAS
The Spanish ETIAS (also known as the European Travel Information and Authorization System) is good for a variety of purposes, including tourism, leisure, business, and medical treatment. It is valid for 3 years from the date of issue and can be used at any air, sea, and land crossing. The maximum amount of time a traveler can spend in the Schengen zone with their ETIAS permit is 90 days within a 180-day period.
The Spanish ETIAS authorization is extremely simple to obtain. All travelers need to do is fill out the online application form, wait, and get approved. The process of applying for the ETIAS takes most applicants less than an hour and can be done from the comfort of his or her house. The majority of applicants are instantly approved. Once the traveler arrives in Spain, their passport is scanned, the ETIAS authorization is checked, and they are allowed to enter the country. From there, the traveler can freely travel to any other Schengen country that they wish to visit.
ETIAS Application for UAE Citizens
The procedure for obtaining an ETIAS for Spain is very simple and takes most applicants less than an hour in order to go through and fill out the application.
The first step in order to apply for an EITAS to visit Spain from the UAE is to begin the online application. This form will ask applications to answer a few questions regarding themselves (such as the traveler’s full name, birth date, and nationality); their contact information; passport information (passport number and expiration date); and travel itinerary. There will also be a handful of security questions regarding the traveler’s criminal record and their previous travels (including conflict zones). Please note that applicants should answer these questions honestly, since the answers will be checked against multiple European security databases such as Interpol.
Once applicants have finished their application, we recommend going through a second time and making sure the answers are correct and accurate. If there is an issue with the application, it will be rejected and travelers will need to submit it again.
Travelers can expect their Spanish ETIAS to be approved instantly, although in some cases it may take up to 3 business days in case of typos, delays, high demand, or other issues.
The confirmation email containing the applicant’s approved Spanish ETIAS will be sent to the email address that was declared on the original application. When traveling to Spain, we recommend printing out this confirmation email just in case the border officer needs to see it.
Passport and Documents Needed
The ETIAS Spain requirements for Emiratis are very manageable and easy. They include only four items:
- A valid Emirati passport: The applicant’s UAE-issued passport must have a minimum of three months validity from the day that they plan to enter Spain. We encourage applicants to keep their passport nearby when filling out the online application so that they can easily access the passport information that is required in one of the sections.
- A valid payment method: In order to pay the ETIAS fee, applicants will need to have a valid payment method, such as a credit card or debit card.
- A device with internet access: Applicants will need to use a device that has internet access, such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer, to fill out the ETIAS application.
- A valid email address: Applicants must provide a current email address at the end of the application. This is extremely important because all notifications regarding the Spanish ETIAS will be sent to the email address that was supplied on the form. We recommend applicants to check this email regularly in order to stay up to date on all correspondences regarding their ETIAS.
