ETIAS Spain Requirements

The ETIAS system is set to come into place in late 2022 with the aim to improve EU travel mobility and border control, as well as security. ETIAS stands for Europe Travel Information and Authorisation System. The new migration and border policy is set to increase security and protect Europe from possible threats that may occur in the future. Those who comply with the ETIAS Spain visa requirements will be able to obtain an authorized travel document for traveling to Spain and/or other European member countries of the Schengen zone.

The initial proposal for the eligible countries for ETIAS application includes 60 countries that will be able to apply for an ETIAS Spain, providing that they meet the ETIAS Spain visa requirements. The ETIAS travel authorization will be strictly for touristic, transit and business purposes, as a stay of any longer than 90 days will require a long-term visa for the corresponding EU country.

Personal Information Requirements

Similarly to other travel authorization processes, such as the US ESTA, applicants will have to comply with the ETIAS requirements in order to receive an approved travel authorization.

The following requirements will be necessary when applying for an ETIAS Spain:

  • Applicants need to be citizens of an eligible country for ETIAS application.
  • A credit or debit card should be used to pay for the ETIAS fee online.
  • An email address should be provided in order to receive the travel authorization.
  • All applicants’ passports should be valid for at least 3 months upon the date of arrival.

The personal details that applicants are required to include in the ETIAS application form include:

  • Full name
  • D.O.B.
  • Gender
  • Country and place of birth
  • Nationality
Passport details that the applicant will have to enter in the application form include:
  • Passport issue date.
  • Passport expiry date.
  • Passport number.

Further ETIAS Spain requirements include contact details such as:

  • Address.
  • Phone number.
  • Email address.

ETIAS applicants will also be asked:

  • Which EU country member of the Schengen zone they intend to visit (first entry).
  • Employment details.
Providing that the ETIAS applicant complies with the above requirements and is a citizen of a country eligible for ETIAS application, no extra information will be required. In the case that you are required to provide additional information, the member state of the EU will contact you to request such information.

ETIAS Eligible Countries

Although the list of eligible ETIAS countries is subject to change, at present, there are more than 60 countries that will be able to apply for an ETIAS Spain.

Documents You Will Need

Within the ETIAS Spain requirements, you will need to possess a valid passport. The passport with which you apply should be valid both at the time of ETIAS application, as well as at the time of entry to the EU member country. Upon entry, applicants should double-check that the passport will be valid for a further 3 months, as the ETIAS will be valid for 90 days. Failure to ensure that your passport will be valid during this time could cause your application to be denied or for your ETIAS to become invalid.

ETIAS or Schengen Visa?

If you are not sure whether you require an ETIAS or a Schengen visa, consult your country requirements or contact your local embassy to find out more information about the conditions and regulations set for your nationality. The ETIAS visa waiver will be available from the end of 2022 for up to 60 different non-EU countries.

If you are an EU citizen, you do not require an ETIAS, nor a Schengen visa.
